Software is eating the world but it needs a physical mouth to chew with. There’s incredible value to be created in bringing digital magic into physical world businesses, but building a startup requires a very different playbook than the one venture capital has learned to run in the last decade or two.
Backstory
Haomiao is a robotics researcher turned founder turned investor. He is particularly passionate about companies bringing digital innovation into physical economy businesses, with a focus on sectors like logistics, manufacturing, and transportation and on advanced technologies like robotics and AI.
Haomiao spent 4 years investing in HardTech alongside Wen at Kleiner Perkins. Prior to that he founded the smart home security startup Kuna, built self-driving cars at Caltech and, as part of his Ph.D. research at Stanford, pioneered the aerodynamics and control of multi-rotor UAVs. Kuna was part of YCombinator’s Winter 14 batch. Haomiao was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at Stanford and received his M.S., Ph.D in Aeronautics & Astronautics. He graduated from Caltech B.S. (with honors) in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Control and Dynamical Systems.
